If you have ever had a yeast infection you know how uncomfortable it can be. You also know how difficult it can be to get rid of. But did you know that there are some very unique and completely natural remedies to get rid of that vaginal yeast infection and improve your immune system at the same time? Well, there definitely are. Garlic is one of those great, natural ingredients that you probably have around your house and that will easily pull double duty, helping you get rid of your infection. Note that a vaginal yeast infection is a different beast than bacterial vaginosis, so if your symptoms continue, be sure to see a doctor.
Garlic is actually known to kill yeast and get rid of nasty vaginal yeast infections. It does this when you have a yeast infection and it does it if you are baking as well. For example, when you bake garlic bread you have to let the bread rise before you can add the garlic or it won’t rise at all. It’s the yeast that makes it rise after all. Of course, it’s going to be a little bit different if you’re trying to kill a yeast infection than if you’re killing off the yeast in a recipe that you’re making (though not too much).
The very first thing you need to do is make sure that you catch your yeast infection early on. This can be a little more difficult than you might think and a lot of people aren’t actually able to do it. If you’ve never had a yeast infection before it’s difficult to know just what the signs really are and what you’re looking for. If you have, well then you might be able to figure it out a little sooner and recognize those very early signs of tingling and itchiness that happens on and off for a day or so before the full blown infection hits.
The process of curing your yeast infection is actually quite simple. What you need to do is simply wait until you’re ready to go to bed and separate a single clove of garlic from the entire head. On the outside is a thin sheet of white that acts as a sort of shell to keep the garlic protected and fresh. You want to remove this outer shell so that the garlic itself is open to the air. Then all you need to do is insert the clove of garlic into the vagina and go to bed.
You want to leave the garlic clove alone throughout the night and remove it when you get up. Throw it into the toilet and flush it away right away. You’ll definitely notice an improvement to the itchiness right away though it may take a second treatment or even three treatments to fully get rid of the problem. Continue until you notice the itchiness has completely abated and you will notice that there is not increase in the problems and the yeast infection does not continue to get worse as you go along.
If you find that the infection has progressed beyond the introductory phase and you have discharge and soreness of the labia you’ll need a slightly higher dose of the garlic in order to treat the infection. You want to get rid of the discharge before inserting the garlic clove. You also want to cut the garlic clove in half and insert only half into the vagina. Though this may seem like a smaller dose, the open side of the clove is actually going to release more of the garlic throughout the night, increasing the actual dose that you’re getting.
You can use this higher dose for a couple days and if there is no improvement you will want to look at your other options for treatment. Not all yeast infections can be treated with garlic and some women may find that they need something stronger to take care of it. Keep in mind that more cuts to the garlic are going to increase the amount that actually gets into the vagina and helps to cut through the yeast. You will definitely want to experiment with what works for you as any woman is going to have a different level they need.
If you want to make sure you can remove the garlic easier you can sew a string through the clove before you insert it. This will make it much easier to pull out when you are ready in the morning but make sure that you’re careful and gentle. Your body is already going through a lot and definitely uncomfortable. You really don’t’ want to cause additional irritation or problems. With the string you’ll find it much easier to get out but even without that string the garlic cannot get into the uterus but it can get in between the cervix and the wall of the vagina so it may be a little more difficult to remove.
If you do not have a yeast infection the cut garlic will actually cause a bit of burning, which means you don’t want to insert it if you don’t have the infection. When you do have an infection it can cause some burning as well, but the garlic has to go through the yeast first. Not only that, since you have the infection the skin is already somewhat burned and therefore the additional contact is not going to cause as much discomfort for the woman. Once you’ve gotten rid of the yeast infection the skin will take care of healing itself, just like any other part of your skin does when you have a cut or burn. Be careful when using garlic oil or olive oil for a similar treatment of yeast infection. Though it can ease itchiness and dryness, you don't want to overdo it and upset your regular ph balance.
You want to make sure that you are taking care of yourself and paying attention to your body. Make sure you watch for the earliest signs of a yeast infection so that you can start treatment right away. Pay attention to how you feel the next day after your treatment as well, so you can figure out whether you need to use the treatment a second time or if you’re going to be just fine.
