Garlic Rice

Simple and delicious! Just as easy as plain rice but a terrific flavor punch from the garlic.

Ingredients

    Sona masoori white rice 1/3 cup
  • Image
    White chana 1/2 cup (cooked)
  • Image
    Garlic 3 cloves
  • Image
    Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  • Image
    Channa dal 1 tsp
  • Image
    Red chili 1 and 1/2
  • Image
    Coconut 2 tblsp
  • Image
    Ghee 1/2 tsp
  • Image
    Oil 4 tsp
  • Image
    Salt as needed
  • Image
    Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Image
    Curry leaves few

Method

    Wash the rice and soak this in water for 10 minutes.
  • Image
    Pressure cook this for 6-7 whistles and keep in a lowest possible flame for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame.

    Cook the soaked chana also in the cooker in a separate vessel.
  • Image
    Chop the garlic finely.
  • Image
    In a pan add ghee and add the chopped garlic, coriander seeds, channa dal and red chili.

    Roast it till the dal and garlic turns brown and add the coconut and roast it in a low flame.

    Switch off the flame once the coconut turns slightly brown. Allow this to cool completely.

    Grind this into a fine powder.

    In a pan add oil and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add the cooked chana. You can add peanuts also and skip the chana.

    Add the cooked rice to this.
  • Image
    Add the garlic spice powder to this. Mix gently and evenly.

    Add salt and mix it well.

    Switch off the flame.
  • Image
    Serve with any raita or papad or vadam.
